Deoria tal - The shallow beauty under the himalayas





Deoria Tal, located at an elevation of 2438 metres, is thought to be a bathing place for Gods. It is an illusory lake that is surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the Rudraprayag region of Uttarakhand's Garhwal region.


It is possibly the most well-known camping and trekking destination in Uttarakhand's Himalayan region. To get to this perfect lake, take a 3 km trekking journey from Mastura and Sari towns on the Ukhimath-Chopta road.


According to Hindu Puranas, this lake was once known as 'Indra Sarovar,' and it holds special significance in Hindu mythology. This location's breathtaking scenery and pristine lake attract a large number of adventurers and nature lovers from all over the world.


The story of Deoria Tal


As per the mythology, this was the exact Emerald Lake where the Hindu Devta or Gods used to take baths. Deoria Tal also has its mention in Hindu Puranas and ancient Hindu Texts as “Indra Sarovar”.

This place is Mythologically connected to the Epic Mahabharata and is believed to be the place where Yaksha asked Pandavas to answer his questions before drinking the water of this lake. Even today the region is having a splendid magical beauty due to its mythical background.


Activities to do at Deoria Tal

Deeoria Tal is also a haven for nature and adventure seekers. This place does not have much sightseeing, but it does have a view of the Mighty Himalayan peak and some adventure activities, which are as follows:


Trekking

Trekking is the most popular activity in this area, with difficulty levels ranging from easy to medium. This place's 3 km long trail offers an incredible birds-eye view of Sari village as well as lush green paddy fields.

Camping

Camping is another popular activity in this area for friends and families. One can have a rewarding experience by camping in their vehicle near Pristine Lake. One can also see the reflection of Chaukhamba peaks in this magnificent lake.

Village tourism

At Deoria Tal, you can also experience village life at Sari village, which is about a 3-kilometer hike away. You will be witnessing and learning about the local way of life, culture, and customs. The locals are extremely friendly and welcoming.
