Deoria tal - The shallow beauty under the himalayas





Deoria Tal, located at an elevation of 2438 metres, is thought to be a bathing place for Gods. It is an illusory lake that is surrounded by snow-capped mountains in the Rudraprayag region of Uttarakhand's Garhwal region.


It is possibly the most well-known camping and trekking destination in Uttarakhand's Himalayan region. To get to this perfect lake, take a 3 km trekking journey from Mastura and Sari towns on the Ukhimath-Chopta road.


According to Hindu Puranas, this lake was once known as 'Indra Sarovar,' and it holds special significance in Hindu mythology. This location's breathtaking scenery and pristine lake attract a large number of adventurers and nature lovers from all over the world.


The story of Deoria Tal


As per the mythology, this was the exact Emerald Lake where the Hindu Devta or Gods used to take baths. Deoria Tal also has its mention in Hindu Puranas and ancient Hindu Texts as “Indra Sarovar”.

This place is Mythologically connected to the Epic Mahabharata and is believed to be the place where Yaksha asked Pandavas to answer his questions before drinking the water of this lake. Even today the region is having a splendid magical beauty due to its mythical background.
